Find an outdoor location where there is good natural light. Avoid deep shadow and direct sunlight.
Consider the background of your shots carefully. A plain background can be ideal. If however, your pet has white fur, avoid a white background as their figure will be lost. Similarly a black dog will be lost against a very dark background.
Being able to see your pet’s eyes makes for a more personal intimate portrait. Get down to your pet’s level and have them look at you when you take their picture
A relaxed pet acting cute and being natural is a more interesting subject than a posed pet.
Take some close up facial shots as well as three quarter and full body shots. This will provide lots of options for your custom portrait. Ensure all of your pet’s paws, tail and ears are included in the shot.
